Osun 2022: We Don’t Want Inconclusive Election, Says INEC

Professor Abdulganiyu Raji, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Professor Abdulganiyu Raji, has said the Independent National Electoral Commission would conduct an inclusive governorship election in the state.

He also said the Commission would not want any disruption that could lead to an inconclusive election and assured that INEC would conduct a poll where everyone would be carried along.

This was disclosed by Raji during an implementation programme on voter’s education organised by INEC for Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers drawn from each of the 30 local government areas in the state and held in Osogbo on Wednesday.

He said after the programme, the selected officers that had been trained would return to their respective council areas and train staff under them.

According to him, the Commission was making efforts to ensure that it followed standard procedure in the conduct of the forthcoming governorship poll and assured that the body would ensure it remained non-partisan for the election to be transparent.

He said, “We don’t want disruption during the election; we don’t want an inconclusive election. And we are going to conduct an inclusive election where every set of people will be carried along.

“Gender, the less privileged, aged people, people with disabilities, is inclusiveness. This enlightenment and sensitisation are the exercises we are starting right from today.”

Commenting on the collection of Permanent Voters Cards, Raji said many PVCs had not been collected. The reason for such apathy was not known, even after necessary publicity had been done.

“We have over 370,000 PVCs, which are yet to be collected for those between 2011 and 2018. But for those who have just registered, you know the exercise took place in over three quarters, first, second and third quarters between June 2021 and March, this year.

“PVCs for those registered during the first and the second quarter, that is June till December 2021, is ready with us. However, we are waiting for the delivery of the ones for the third quarter this week; that is why we have not rolled out the PVCs,” Raji concluded.

2023 Presidency: Reason Tinubu Hasn’t Chosen A Running Mate Yet – Farouk Aliyu

post-image

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress, has not yet chosen a running mate, according to former minority leader of the House of Representatives Farouk Aliyu.

The complexity of the nation, according to Aliyu, is the reason it has taken so long for the former governor of Lagos State and his political party to choose a vice presidential candidate.

He emphasised that the selection of Tinubu’s running mate will be made public shortly and that the criteria for candidates should be competence rather than religion.

This was said by the former politician during an interview with Sunday Politics on Channels Television.

He asserted that the most crucial factor is that the candidate would be universally welcomed by everyone, even if the party ultimately presents Nigerians with a Muslim-Muslim ticket…

Tinubu will prevent APC lawmakers from abandoning the party

post-image

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, will halt the wave of senators leaving the ruling party, according to Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State.

Recall that Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of the APC, bemoaned the wave of senators leaving the party to join other parties.

Shettima led a group of APC senators to meet with Tinubu in Abuja on Sunday due to the crisis engulfing the party’s Senate caucus.

After the meeting, he told reporters that Tinubu had assisted in addressing the crucial concerns of the ruling party senators.

He added that the MPs were prepared to strive for the APC’s advancement in the elections of 2023.

These senators have a lot of value-adding skills and are outstanding persons in their own right. We think Tinubu’s intervention will be very helpful in preventing the party’s downfall.

Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party presidential hopeful Atiku Abubakar has removed a message about dead Deborah Samuel on his Facebook and Twitter sites after northern zealots threatened his 2023 presidential aspiration.

Atiku erased the Facebook post he wrote yesterday night about 10:20 p.m., less than an hour later, in response to a flood of threats from northern zealots urging him to abandon his presidential ambition.

The tweet drew hundreds of replies in minutes, largely from fundamentalists who urged Atiku not to denounce the death of the Christian student.
