Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike remarked that the people of Katsina notified him that Muhammadu Buhari had failed to protect them despite being their son.
Wike said this at a meeting with PDP leaders and delegates in Lokoja, Kogi State’s capital city, on Wednesday.
“I went in Katsina yesterday (Tuesday) and people said the president is from Katsina; our own son is president, but there is so much insecurity in Katsina State,” he remarked. Thus, it makes no difference where you come from today; what matters is who will execute this task.”
Wike, on the other hand, has pledged that if elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he would build a government of national unity.
The governor indicated that he would put strong leadership to bear on bridging the present schism amongst Nigerians caused by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“If we win, we will build a government of national unity in which we will unite the country.” God did not make a mistake by placing us all in the nation of Nigeria. God has bestowed upon us everything. All that is necessary is strong leadership capable of bringing everything together, and Nigeria will become what it really should be.”
Governor Wike declared that he is prepared, eager, and brimming with vitality to lead Nigeria out of its present predicament.
He acknowledged the magnitude of the issues but said that he would be the president who would not shirk his obligation to Nigeria.
“When I act, you will know the president has acted. It will not be a leadership that is undecided on the course of action to take. I have character, and people recognise me for who I am and what I will do. Nigerians are aware of my positions on several matters. If we’re going to accomplish anything, we should do it properly.
“Governor Wike maintained that the PDP must win the 2023 presidential election to save Nigeria.
He promised the delegates that if he was awarded the ticket and ultimately became President of Nigeria, the greatest minds would be collected and he would be an effective leader of that team.
“No one individual can accomplish it alone, which is why we need the finest. The capacity to arrange others who will collaborate with you to achieve outcomes is a leadership responsibility.
“Governor Wike, who also remarked on the critical nature of addressing problems of insecurity, said that without success in resolving insecurity, the country’s socioeconomic existence would stay impoverished.
“How can we grow the economy if there is insecurity?” If you are unable to visit a farm, you cannot discuss agriculture. Can investors enter if there is so much insecurity? They were not going to arrive.”
The Rivers State governor encouraged delegates to avoid delivering the party’s mandate to those who are not loyal to the PDP and have no chance of winning the 2023 presidential election.
Ibrahim Idris, a former governor of Kogi State, however, said that the nation is in serious need of a focused and committed leader like Governor Wike to save it.
“Nigeria is in a grave situation. We are fortunate to be breathing air, but our nation is in a horrible state right now, and to get out of it, you need a guy who understands the problem, a man who has the capacity, a man who has the ability, and a man who has the vision to build the purpose necessary to get out of this hole. Governor Nyesom Wike is such individual, based on his antecedents, his track record, and his uniting stance for the whole country of Nigeria.”
Earlier in the day, Governor Wike paid a visit to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello at the Lugard House, where he informed him of his presidential ambitions.
He lauded Governor Bello for his tenacity and commitment to young inclusion in his government.
Governor Wike stressed that political leaders, regardless of their party leanings, should abstain from conduct that might cause division and unrest in the polity.
Governor Bello, who expressed gratitude for Governor Wike’s visit, said that he, too, aspired to follow President Buhari and build on his triumphs and accomplishments.
“When the time comes, I am certain that we will unite and work together to create this nation. Parties are just cars, as you said, that would transport us to our various destinations, and the goal is a wealthy, peaceful, and unified Nigeria, which we will construct by the grace of God.”
