Kano Records Five Deaths from Cholera

Five fatalities from cholera were reported in Kano State, according to the government of the state.

Additionally, it said that the epidemic had been addressed with highly effective preventive measures.

At a news conference in Kano on Tuesday, the state’s commissioner for health, Dr. Aminu Tsanyawa, revealed this.

On April 16, 2022, a case of vomiting and watery diarrhoea in the Dambatta Local Government region of the state was reported and swiftly investigated, according to Tsanyawa.

He claims that since then, 189 cases in 20 LGAs have been registered, of which 184 have completely recovered, 0 cases are active, and 5 fatalities.

He said that feco-oral transmission, which is also the disease’s causal agent, is still a problem in Nigeria, especially during the rainy season, due to inadequate personal and environmental hygiene, sanitation, poor waste management, and open defecation.

Any resident of a community under investigation who has acute watery diarrhoea with or without vomiting should be evaluated right away for suspected cholera disease, he advised. “You may wish to know that cholera outbreak is seasonal and is a bacterial infection of humans caused by v.cholerae, which is a Gram-negative bacillus,” he said.

The commissioner also commended the governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for his dedication to delivering quality medical treatment to the state’s decent citizens in order to end the cholera outbreak and other ailments in the state.

Senator Ademola Adeleke, the newly elected governor of Osun State, has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission from tampering with the voting equipment used in the Osun State governorship election on July 16 in an effort to support the All Progressives Congress.
